Mid-week Championship (Round 8)

Round 8 of the Mid-week Championship was held on a sunny Wednesday 30th May with the wind being fairly light at times from a westerly direction.

The course was a triangle with a beat to finish, starting in the far corner at the car-park end between the bank and mark 3; diagonally across the lake to the first mark just to the right of the landing stage; out to the second mark in the far corner at the fishing lake end; straight along the bank to the start mark and finish between the first mark and the landing stage, all on port.

With four wins Barry Raven on 15 points was the winner on the day with John Newton second on 17 points and Graham Leigh third on 21 points. After applying the handicaps, Eric Hedges was first, with Barry Raven second and John Newton third.

The annual League is just as close at the top with Graham Leigh the current leader on 25 points, John Newton second on 26 points and Barry Raven third on 27 points.

Mid-week Championship (Round 7)

Round 7 of the Mid-week Championship on Wednesday 23rd may 2012 was greeted with a hot sunny day with the wind basically coming from the NNE. The course was therefore an Olympic Triangle with a sausage starting in the near corner at the fishing lake end, the straight along the bank to the first mark in the near corner at the car-park end; out to the second mark mid-way along the far side bank; back to the start mark; then along the bank to the first mark; back to the start mark; then along the bank to the finish between the first mark and the bank.

Graham Leigh on 8 points with 4 wins was the winner on the day, with John Newton on 12 points second and Gerry Ledger on 15 points third. However, after applying the handicap, Eric Hedges was the winner with John Newton second and Gerry Ledger third.

This now leaves Graham Leigh on 20 points leading the Mid-week Championship with John Newton on 22 points second and Barry Raven on 24 points third.

With regards the Annual League, Graham Leigh also leads this with 25 points, Barry Raven second on 27 points and John Newton third on 28 points.

Round 8 of the Mid-week Championship will be on Wednesday 30th May 2012.

Roy Hunter Trophy (Round 4)

Round 4 of the Roy Hunter Trophy was contested on an overcast Sunday 20th May 2012 with a wind basically from the North East. The course was an Olympic Triangle with a sausage starting in the near corner at the fishing lake end.  The first mark was in the near corner at the car-park end; then out to the middle of the lake on the far side to the second mark; then back to the start mark; along the bank to the first mark; back to the start mark; and finish between the first mark and the bank all on starboard.

Barry Raven  on 25 points dominated the day with 7 wins out of the twelve races, followed by John newton on 30 points and Malcolm Schaffer third on 40 points.

This now leaves John Newton leading the competition on 114 points, with Brian Berry second on 155 points and Barry Raven on 192 points. The next Round will be on Sunday 24th June 2012.

Mid-week Championship – Round 6

Round 6 of the Mid-week Championship took place on Wednesday 16th May 2012 on a mainly sunny day with a westerly wind which was relative consistent in strength but variable in direction. The course was an Olympic triangle with a sausage starting in the far corner at the fishing lake end. Then diagonally across the lake to the first mark just off the landing stage; then out to the far corner at the car-park end; straight along the bank to the furthest start mark; back to the first mark; back to the start mark and finish through the first mark and the wind sock on the landing stage, all on Starboard.

Roy Miatt start to race but after three races he gave up and so his scores were discarded. With 5 wins, Barry Raven on 16 points was not consistent enough to beat Graham Leigh on 15 points, with John Newton third on 21 points. After applying the handicap these three retained their places, which leaves Graham Leigh leading the Championship on 16 points, Barry Raven second on 17 points and John Newton third on 20 points.

With regards the Annual League, Barry Raven and Graham Leigh are joint first on 23 points with Barry taking the position on count back, and John newton third on 28 points.

The next round of the Championship is Wednesday 23rd May 2012, with the Roy Hunter Trophy on Sunday 20th May 2012.

Mid-Week Championship (Round 5)

Round 5 of the Spring Mid-Week Championship took place on Wednesday 9th May 2012 on a mainly dry but overcast day with a wind primarily from the West.

The course was an Olympic Triangle and a sausage starting in the near corner at the car-park end. Straight along the lake to the windward mark at the fishing lake end on port; out to the wing mark on the far side of the lake on port; back to the start mark on port; along the lake to the windward mark on port; back to the start mark on port and finish between the windward mark and the bank.

Graham Leigh on 11 points was the winner on the day with five wins out of the ten races, with John Newton second on 16 points and Malcolm Schaffer third with 18 points. However after applying the handicap, Brian Foskett was first, with Graham Leigh second and John Newton third.

With respect to the Annual League, Barry Raven still leads on 18 points with Graham Leigh second on 22 points and John Newton third on 26 points.
